Rules
- Topic: Generally speaking, discussions must align with both faith and reason. Claims should be supported by logical argumentation and, when applicable, authoritative sources (Scripture, Tradition, Magisterium, philosophy, etc.).
- Burden of Proof Applies: If you make a claim, you must provide evidence or sound reasoning.
- Logical Fallacies Not Allowed: Avoid straw man arguments, ad hominem attacks, false dichotomies, and other logical fallacies. Arguments must be structured and intellectually honest.
- Respectful Debate Only: Civil discourse is required. Disagree passionately, but attack arguments, not people. Personal insults, inflammatory rhetoric, hostility, or excessive swearing will not be tolerated.
- No Relativism: This is a forum for truth-seeking, not for postmodern relativism. Claims of “your truth” and “my truth” will not be tolerated.
- Cite Your Sources: When quoting Scripture, Church documents, philosophical or historical texts, provide proper references. Unverified claims will be dismissed.
- Theological and Philosophical Depth Encouraged: Superficial or emotional arguments should be developed with deeper reasoning. Engage with the intellectual richness of Catholic thought.
- No Spamming or Proselytizing: Non-Catholics are welcome to debate, but attempts to spam or proselytize without engaging in rational discussion will result in administrative action.
- Charitable Interpretation Required: Assume good faith in discussions. Before refuting an argument, ensure you understand it correctly (Principle of Charity).
- Stay on Topic: Discussions should remain relevant to Catholic theology, philosophy, and apologetics. Off-topic or disruptive tangents may result in administrative action; however, plenty of leeway will generally be given here.
Administrative Action
- Most infractions will result in either a warning or a dot (not to exceed three minutes).
- Administrators who repeatedly use excessively long dots will have their administrative privileges removed.
- Users who repeatedly contribute little or nothing to discussions will be bounced and/or permanently banned. Bans will be listed and justified here.
Bans
- Name (Date Banned mm/dd/yy): Reason
Regulars
Those who actively participate in meaningful discussions over a significant period of time will earn “regular” status. Regulars will be granted greater leeway in relation to the rules.
